Firefox 2.0.0.13 has been released
Firefox has been updated with a bug/security fix update this week.
I was a little disconcerted when I looked at the release notes.
I was glad that they had fixed some bugs that sounded like they were important. I was just a little uneasy that bugs of this sort were still being found in web browsers a dozen years after such applications, Java applets, and Javascript became mainstream computing environments.
Maybe there needs to be an open source testbed for checking out browsers. A full blown diagnostic/testing web site.
I am not talking about testing the formatting and rendering issues. They already do have lots of standardized documents to put browsers through their paces.
More like a whole dynamic content web site that would put any browser through its paces.
Something that would check to make sure if a web site out on the Internet does something crazy, that a browser does not follow its lead and do something untoward.
It is 2008, now. Little flaws that were not so bad in 1994 are a big deal now. Some are still now big deal - but others really give me pause.
It seems like there needs to be an independent QA team which develops and maintains a big web site that puts a browser through its paces and reports any flaws of a certain type. You know the type I am talking about.
Anyway, open source web QA. I am sure its time has come.
