Do not forget to take out the trash

The breadth of media, people, ideas, and content one can connect with the modern World Wide Web are amazing. There is a lot of stuff out there and when you find some of it you know it is really good.

Today I noticed some podcasts that that were 2-4 years old. They were no longer of interest to me so I deleted them. I also unsubscribed to a couple podcasts. Together with other files I had deleted earlier this month, I freed up well over a gigabyte of space.

I also stopped following a few feeds in Twitter. I monitor Twitter in unobtrusive way so I barely notice tweets when they happen. I got one today that was of no interest anymore so I figured it was time to clean house.

Interests change over time. Feels good to pitch the old stuff out.

Content gets old. Connections get stale. Members drop out of groups and unsubscribe from services. By periodically removing unused connections and subscriptions to users and and feeds, and deleting old files, you can save a lot of space.
