Fixing the Blogspot syntax error
I figured out how to do it. Describing what the problem is and how to fix it is a different matter entirely.
Since Blogger/Blogspot expands their tags when I use them, I have to escape them. If I knew what dollar sign was in base 16, I would fix that. Unfortunately, I do not.
See the comment for my earlier post on the subject. It has a little help in it that will point you in the right direction. I do not know if it is the best direction, but it is one that works - and it is the simplest way to solve the problem.

Wow, that really did not work so well!
I assumed the tags would be escaped with the lt and gt - and also that this would prevent the Blogger template engine from expanding the blogger tags and HTML tags.
Looks like I was wrong on one count or the other.
I will try to fix this formatting problem. In the meantime, you might be able to decipher what I wrote by viewing the HTML source for this page or something.
That might not work, but that is all I can think of for now.
