Apple rolls out new web/iPhone/iMac/PC service; Mobile Me
Apple has crafted a brand new web site that will allow people to keep all of their personal info in sync on their iPhone & Mac/PC.
The new service will go live soon It will be available at me.com and cost $99/year - the same price as the current mac.com service from Apple.
For now, you can learn more about it at: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
I think this is a more focussed and better technically executed offering than what Microsoft tried to do with their live.com service years ago.
Unlike live.com, this service will work with Macs & PCs both. It will even work with AppleTV devices.
Live.com was crippled by the fact it only worked on PCs running MS-Windows - and could only be accessed from Internet Explorer. A browser that is far from ever everybody's favorite!
Me.com has such a naturally beautiful user interface that you will barely be aware that you are working in a web browser page - not in a desktop application.
It will offer the same services as mac.com. - plus a lot more.
This means email, calendaring, file-sharing, photo-sharing, etc. will all be provided.
New services like iPhone synchronization/access are being added. The user interface -which was good before - will be getting even better too!
When the service goes live, all existing mac.com users will have their accounts automatically converted. Same price, same features & more, better user interface - makes sense to simply convert everyone.
Here is a video that gives a brief tour of new Apple me.com service.
Existing mac.com users are in for a treat. Anyone with an iPhone will also want to take a look at this service. Techies, parents, professionals, and students will probably be really into it too.
Apple has really shown what the Modern Web can do. Now, it is just up to everyone to take a look!
